She also had published stories in *Jack and Jill* and *Humpty Dumpty* magazines.\r\n\r\nShe worked at the Omaha *World Herald* before marrying fellow journalist Frank Calhoun. Her first book, *Making the Mississippi Shout*, was published in 1957.
